The Ellis Journey

A drive from Micheldever Station to Datchet

For pre-1905 vehicles with two, three or four wheels

The weekend of 1st and 2nd July 2017

The Hon. Evelyn Ellis in his Panhard

On 5 July 1895, the Hon. Evelyn Ellis unloaded his car from the train at Micheldever Station, near Winchester, and drove it a distance of 43 miles to his home in Datchet, on the outskirts of Windsor. This was the first recorded journey by a motorised carriage on public roads in the UK.

To celebrate this historic occasion, the De Dion Bouton Club UK is organising a vehicle display on Saturday 1st and a re-enactment of the journey on Sunday 2nd July 2017.

If you have a pre-1905 cycle, motorcycle, tricycle or car and would like to participate.
